Donald O’Brien, 81, of Shediac, passed away at Dr.
George-L.- Dumont UHC on Friday, October 9, 2026 surrounded by his
loving family. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late
Jacob and Eva (LeBlanc) O’Brien.
Don was the owner of O’Brien Siding and
Renovations. He lived in Shediac his entire life and was very proud of
his hometown. You could often find him at the wharf or just driving
around town. He was the type of man that needed things to make sense
in his own mind and had his own way of looking at life. He was a
deeply religious person guided by his faith and values. He always
wanted to do what he believed was right. Boyd made us laugh at
parties, usually at his place, and sometimes even made us shake our
heads. But in the end, he was respected for being who he
was—his own man, his own boss.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Raija (Rantala); two
sons: Randy (Jariya) and Chris (Isabelle); one brother: Emile (Yvette)
of Shediac; one sister Marie Auffrey of Dieppe; two grandchildren: Zoe
and Kyana; as well as several nieces, nephews and
friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers:
Claude and Robert.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral
Centre 396 Main Street, Shediac on Friday October 16, 2026 from 6pm to
8pm and Saturday October 17, 2026 from 10am until 11am. The funeral
service will follow at 11am in the chapel of Frenette Funeral Centre.
Interment will take place in the Saint-Joseph parish
cemetery.
