It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of
Edouard "Eddie" St. Pierre. Eddie passed away peacefully on
Saturday, September 19, 2026, at The Moncton Hospital. Born in
Moncton, Eddie was the beloved son of the late Edouard and Emma
(Belliveau) St. Pierre.
He leaves behind his sons, John (Elizabeth) and Terry, and
daughter, Emma Lee (Gerald), along with several grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Eddie was a devoted father, grandfather and
great-grandfather. He touched many lives throughout his years and will
be remembered for the life he lived, the people he loved, the pictures
he took, signing into the clubs (a special thanks to Brian Wilkens for
driving him daily during the past two years) and the memories he
leaves behind.
His name was synonymous with sports in New Brunswick, and
nobody had his finger on the pulse of Greater Moncton than Eddie St.
Pierre, also known as The Saint.
He joined the staff of The Moncton Daily Times and The
Moncton Transcript in 1950 as a 17-year-old file clerk and was named
sports editor in 1956, a title he held until 1992.
A noted baseball player in his youth, Eddie was inducted into
the New Brunswick Baseball Hall of Fame, the Moncton Sports Wall of
Fame and The New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the
Lewisville Keefe Cubs junior team that won four provincial, three
N.B.-P.E.I. and two Maritime titles in the 1950s.
Eddie was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the
Montreal Canadians, and could always be seen at the Mets baseball
games as well as the Wildcats and Aigles Bleus hockey
games.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all
of doctors, nurses and staff at The Moncton Hospital for the
exceptional care, kindness, compassion and the love they showed Eddie
during his time there. Your dedication and support meant more to our
family than words can express.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and
Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (506-858-1900) on Thursday
from 6 to 9 pm only. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Christ-Roi
Church, 300 Dominion Street, Moncton, on Friday September 25 at 11
am. Thank you to the Moncton Press Club for hosting the
reception after the funeral services from 12:00 until 2
pm. Interment will be at Our Lady of Calvary cemetery in
Dieppe.
In lieu of flowers, in memory of Eddie, the family ask for
donations to be made to The Kidney Foundation, The Friends of The
Moncton Hospital, or to a charity of choice.
