Clarence Melanson, 98, of Moncton, passed away on Thursday
September 10, 2026 at the Villa du Repos. Born in Leominster, MA, he
was the son of the late Néri and Alice (Drisdelle)
Melanson.
Clarence devoted over 40 years of his working life to
Canadian National (CN), retiring in 1987 in Montréal.
Throughout his life, he was an active member of his community and
belonged to the Montreal Traffic Club, the Moncton Press Club, and the
Knights of Columbus. A true sports enthusiast, Clarence played hockey,
baseball, and golf throughout his life. He was also proud to be
inducted into the Sackville Hall of Fame as a member of the 1952-53
hockey team. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two sisters: Claudette LeBlanc (late Don)
and Pauline Belliveau (Alfred "Fred"); one brother, Roger
(Sherry); one sister-in-law, Roberte Melanson; as well as many nieces
and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by the love of his
life, Kathleen McIntyre; two sisters: Lorraine Cormier (Paul) and
Germaine Melanson (Alphonse); and two brothers: George and
Paul.
The family would love to express their gratitude to Villa du
Repos for their excellent care, also to his caregivers, Josette,
Catherine and Camilla, who he adored, as well as to the extra mural
for their care and to Frenette Funeral Home for their excellent
services.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and
Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) where the
funeral will be celebrated on Friday September 18 at 3 pm. Visiting
hours are Friday from 1 pm until time of funeral. The funeral service
will be streamed live; to view the funeral, go to Clarence’s
obituary on the Frenette Website. Interment will be in Our
Lady of Calvary cemetery, Dieppe. In memory of Clarence, a
contribution to the CHU Dumont Foundation or to a charity of the
donor’s choice would be appreciated.
