It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edgar
Alyre LaFrance, 89, of Moncton, on Thursday August 20, 2026 at Albert
House of Hospice SENB, following a brief illness with brain cancer.
Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Stanislaus
"Stanley" and Amanda (Cormier) LaFrance.
Edgar was a remarkably gentle, kind and considerate soul who
brought warmth wherever he went. He embraced life fully and was
happiest surrounded by family and friends, sharing stories, laughter
and good times. He treasured his lifelong friends and was always
willing to help others. Until the end, Edgar enjoyed gathering with
friends and family for pool, cards and music from his beloved
jukebox.
An avid sports fan, he was a loyal Montreal Canadiens and
Boston Red Sox supporter. In his younger years, he played baseball,
hockey, basketball and football in Moncton, and later enjoyed
competitive horseshoes, bowling, darts and golf, earning numerous
tournament awards. For over 20 years, he held season tickets to
Moncton Wildcats games and rarely missed a game with his good friends
Don and Jake. Edgar loved music, attending concerts, collecting music
and dancing. He enjoyed a long career in sales, including selling
men’s clothing and Durell paint throughout the Atlantic
provinces. He also worked at the Mountain Road Medical Clinic. During
one trip, he bravely saved a young boy from drowning in a hotel pool,
an experience he never forgot.
Edgar is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife,
Edith (Nowlan) LaFrance; four children: Michelle LaFrance,
Kim LaFrance-Blackier, Christine LaFrance, all of Moncton, and
André (Gabrielle Montello) of Montréal,
Qué.; six grandchildren: Mathieu, Luc, Andrew, Abigail,
Samuel and Gabriel; six great-grandchildren: Sebastien, Aurora, Micah,
Elijah, Dayna and Ira; two sisters: Lorraine LaFrance of Moncton and
Gloria Landry of Shippagan; two brothers: François (late
Valérie) and Charles (Lucie), both of Dieppe; as well his
nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one brother,
Francis.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at
Albert House for their care and compassion.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and
Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (506-858-1900) where a
celebration of life will take place on Monday August 24 at 4 pm.
Visiting hours are Monday from 2 pm until time of funeral. Interment
will be at Our Lady of Calvary cemetery in Dieppe. In memory of Edgar,
a contribution to Brain Cancer Canada or Hospice SENB (Albert House)
would be appreciated.
