John Donald Gordon Murray "Johnny Boy", age 73, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026 with his loving wife of 50 years, Wendy (Gallant), at his side.

Born in Stratford (Ontario), he was the son of the late Donald and Alice (Ray) Murray. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter Kristal LeBlanc (Martin) and his sisters, Katherine Murray and Donna Donahue, as well as many nieces and nephews.

John was many things to many people.

To his daughter, he was her forever champion. To his community, he was the neighbourhood "taxi driver" zipping around in his beloved Dodge Intrepid, which he later regrettably traded in for a succession of mini vans.

He was immensely proud of his daughter’s charitable work and instilled this sense of service on to others.

John was well respected at Canada Post where he dedicated his life’s work for over 35 years. He was a simple man, with simple tastes, who felt that even pepper was considered "too spicy", but he loved late night head cheese sandwiches and fried clams. John was most peaceful walking along Clearwater Beach in Florida with his father-in-law, the late Edgar Gallant. He loved nothing more than vacationing with his wife, where they spent many loving and intimate moments together.

John loved all sports, but particularly basketball, where he spent many years volunteering as a coach for MKMBA. He was often found around town wearing one of many sports’ themed ball caps, of which he had an extensive collection.

He was a lover of the cinema and was very proud of his movie collection. Some of his daughter’s fondest memories involved watching the latest release from the neighborhood video store with her dad. One such memory involved her father getting into a verbal altercation with the video store clerk, because the evening’s childhood movie selection had made his daughter cry – he never could stomach seeing his loved ones in pain.

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (506-858-1900) where the funeral service will be celebrated on Monday March 2 at 10:30 am with a reception to follow. Visiting hours are Sunday March 1 from 2 to 4 pm only. John will rest in the Frenette Columbarium in Moncton. In memory of John, donations can be made to the Beauséjour Family Crisis Resource Centre or the Moncton Minor Basketball Association.

Words of comfort and donations may be done at www.frenettefuneralhome.com.
