It is with heavy hearts that the family of Raymond Babineau
announces his passing on Sunday February 1, 2026, at The Moncton
Hospital. He lived a wonderful life of 94 years, surrounded by his
loving family. Raised in Lewisville, New Brunswick, he was the son of
the late Evariste and Anna (Richard) Babineau.
He attended Saint-Joseph College in Memramcook and Moncton
High School. He started his rewarding career at Air Canada in 1959; it
brought him valued colleagues, memorable experiences and adventure
through travel.
Above all, Ray’s focus throughout his life was on
his family and being a big part of the lives of his children,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was instrumental in raising
his grandchildren: Patrick, Aaron, Katelyn, and Justin. Ray was
intensely interested in people's lives, including the little things
such as what was planned for supper, travels, the weather where we
lived or what the kids were up to.
His interests spanned travelling with family or colleagues
around the Americas and Europe, nature - especially the ocean scenery
of the NB coast, diverse seafood and ethnic cuisines, politics and
news - he was an avid newspaper reader. He thoroughly enjoyed music
and was curious about science.
Ray was deeply involved in Lewisville minor hockey as a coach
for many years, where he thrived. His passion for sports
revolved around the beloved "Habs" - Montreal Canadiens, as
well as the Toronto Blue Jays and Montreal Expos.
He is survived by his former wife, Dorothy Donovan; his six
children: Rick (Mary), Mike (Kathy), David (Gerri), Jill (Greg), Larry
(Shauna), and James (Catherine). He was the cherished grandfather to
Lynley, Julia, Patrick, Cara, Grant, Eilidh, Stephanie, Ryan, Maria,
Aaron, Katelyn, Nolan, Justin, Pierre, and Maxime, and
great-grandfather to Kaius, Easton, and Oliver.
Besides his parents, Raymond was predeceased by two brothers:
Emery and George.
By request, there will be no visitation. The funeral mass
will be celebrated at Saint Bernard’s Roman
Catholic Church, 43 Botsford Street, Moncton, on Thursday February 5,
2026 at 2 pm. In remembrance of Raymond’s life, the family
asks charitable donations be made to the Moncton Food Bank. Funeral
arrangements are in the professional care of Frenette Funeral and
Cremation Centre, Moncton (506-858-1900).
