It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of
Claude Victor Cormier, 80, of Moncton, after a courageous year long
battle with pulmonary fibrosis, on Monday, January 26, 2026 at Albert
House of Hospice SENB. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late
William (Bill) and Edith (Leblanc) Cormier.
Claude was husband to Linda (Léger) for 55 years,
dad to daughters: Michelle (Jeff), Renée (Kenny), and
Nathalie (Kelly), son Chris (Angie), and "Gramps" to Kenny
Jr. and Owen. He loved his family dearly and was proud of their
accomplishments.
Besides his parents, Claude was predeceased by his brother
John, sister-in-law Tina, as well as several aunts, uncles, and
cousins.
Claude graduated from Moncton High School in 1963 and
received a diploma in electrical technology from NBTI in 1966. Prior
to working for the Moncton Fire Department in 1971, Claude worked for
NB Power in Saint John and Fredericton but he loved Moncton and was
grateful to have been able to work and raise his family in this city.
Claude retired in 2002 as Division Chief of Fire Prevention after 31
years of proud service in the Moncton Fire Department. In addition to
his love for firefighting, Claude also enjoyed many hours curling at
the MCA.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Cory
Long, Dr. Mathieu Poirier, Dr. Igoe, Janice and the extramural team,
and the wonderful staff at Albert House.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and
Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (506-858-1900) where the
celebration of life will be held on Monday, February 2 at
11 am. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2-4 pm and
Monday from 10 am until time of service. The funeral service
will be streamed live; to view the funeral, go to Claude’s
obituary on the Frenette Website. Claude will rest in the Frenette
columbarium in Moncton. In memory of Claude, a contribution to Hospice
SENB (Albert House) would be appreciated.
