Gilles Cormier, 83, of Dieppe, passed away peacefully at home
on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. Born in Campbellton, he was the beloved
son of the late Simon and Léona (Arsenault)
Cormier.
A devoted and gifted educator, Gilles spent his career
teaching at Polyvalente Roland-Pépin, where he influenced
an entire generation of students, before serving as a second-language
linguistic evaluator for the Province of New Brunswick. Curious and
full of life, he was a lifelong learner who found joy in skiing,
cycling, reading, staying active at the gym, and perfecting his
homemade pizzas for his children and grandchildren. In his
neighbourhood, he was known and loved for his legendary homemade jam,
crafted with the same care and generosity he offered to everyone he
met. And, of course, he was a proud and loyal fan of the
Montréal Canadiens, cheering them on faithfully through
every season.
At the heart of Gilles’s life was his wife of 56
years, Sharon (Law). Their relationship was a remarkable example of
true and enduring love, a partnership built on mutual respect,
laughter, deep companionship, and unwavering support. Together, they
created a home filled with warmth, generosity, and joy. Their love
story was one that inspired everyone around them, a quiet but powerful
testament to what it means to choose each other, every day, for more
than half a century.
Gilles leaves behind Sharon; his three children: Jacques of
Campbellton, Marc (Christiane) of Mississauga, ON, and Melissa-Marie
Cormier (Cynthia Robillard) of Gatineau, QC; and his two cherished
grandsons, Roméo and Oscar, who brought immense joy and
pride into his life. He is also survived by his sister, Francine
Cormier of Rimouski, QC; his brother, Jean-Guy (Helen) of Vancouver,
BC; his brother-in-law, Wayne Law of Toronto, ON; his sister-in-law,
Marsha Hello (Patrick) of Fredericton; as well as many nieces,
nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Gilles will be especially missed
by his lifelong friends, Louis and Jeannine Parent of Dieppe, whose
decades of friendship meant the world to him.
He was predeceased by his parents; his precious
granddaughter, Mollie; and his brother, Roger.
Family and friends are invited to gather and honour
Gilles’s life at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88
Church Street, Moncton (506-858-1900), where the funeral service will
be celebrated on Monday, December 15 at 11 a.m. Visitation will take
place the same day from 10 a.m. until the start of the service. In
memory of Gilles, a donation to a charity of one’s choice
would be appreciated.
