Elizabeth MacMichael

1932-2025

Elizabeth Doreen (Flewelling) MacMichael known as Betty, passed away on Friday November 21, 2025 at the K E Spencer Memorial Home in Moncton, at the age of 92.

Born In Saint John, she was the only daughter of the late Mildred Emma (Dureen) Flewelling and Herman Gray Flewelling.

Betty grew up in Saint John and began her married life to Ralph E MacMichael there. After ten years, they moved their family of three children to Kentville NS where they lived for thirty-three years.

It was in NS, that Betty discovered two passions beyond her family:  swimming and dancing.  She was very involved in the creation and administration of Red Cross Learn to Swim programs.  Many people in the Kentville-Wolfville area learned to swim under her instruction.  She developed a publication "Land and Water Drills for Basic Swimming Strokes" to assist other instructors.  Betty was also involved in Synchronized Swimming in NS as a coach, examiner, judge and technical coordinator.  Betty’s passion for dancing was shared by her husband Ralph for over thirty years.  They started with social dancing, then moved to round and square dancing.  They danced in clubs throughout PEI, NS and NB, attended many Summer Festivals and travelled to six national events in Canada and the US.  They considered the dance community part of their family!

Betty and Ralph moved to Sussex, NB for the last twenty years of their sixty-five year marriage.

Betty is survived by her three children: Janet Webster (Mark) of Cap Brule, NB; David MacMichael of Dartmouth, NS; Jean Oickle of Coldbrook, NS; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

By request, a private family service\celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are in the professional care of Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Shediac (506 532-3297).

In memory of Elizabeth, a contribution to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
