Peter Cleven, 77, of Grand-Barachois, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 11, 2025. Born in Montréal, Québec, to Odvar Cleven and June MacKenzie, and grew up alongside his younger brother, Barry.
From an early age, his athleticism and drive were evident. He was an active member of the Cartierville Rowing Club, played baseball for Mount Royal, and excelled in a wide range of sports throughout his youth. He played AAA hockey in St. Laurent and was even scouted for his baseball pitching abilities by the New York Mets, though he ultimately chose a different path. Beyond athletics, he pursued his studies at McGill University, laying the foundation for a lifetime of hard work, curiosity, and achievement.
After leaving Montréal, Peter made his home in Saint John, New Brunswick. He began working for the City of Saint John in the Works Department. It was there he found the love of his life, marrying Thérèse Leblanc; together, they raised four children. He later became a city manager of facilities, and the family eventually settled in Grand-Barachois.
Peter was a talented musician and lifelong sports enthusiast. He played guitar, mandolin, and violin, remaining active throughout his life, particularly enjoying hockey and golf. He loved sharing his passion for music and sports and was never short on stories, often captivating those around him and leaving them laughing.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 45 years, Thérèse Cleven; his children: Jenny Logan and her husband Darren of Quispamsis, Jay Fullerton and his wife Julie of Shediac, Kristian Cleven and his wife Olesya of Orlando, and Laura Cleven and her partner Jeremie Gaudet of Grand-Barachois; his grandchildren: Zoe, Jake, Mya, Luc, Anika, Isadora, Lillian, and Endre; as well as many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
In keeping with his wishes, no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Maison Albert, where they provided compassionate care, comfort, peace, and dignity in his final hours
