Mary Ellen (Garland) Halliday, 91, of Moncton, NB, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Moncton Hospital after a short illness. Born in Glace Bay, NS, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Minnie (Strickland) Garland.

She is survived by her loving children: Jim (Janique) of Lakeville, NB, John (Cheryl) of Sydney, NS, and Joanna (Joe Warren) of Cottage Grove, WI; grandchildren: Jordan (Rebecca) Halliday, Taylor (Amelia), Kelsey, and Ryan Warren; great-grandchildren: Jack, Marlo, and Juni Halliday; her special niece, Ruby Tondreau, as well as other nieces and nephews.

The last surviving Garland child, Mary was predeceased by her five brothers: John, Edward (Eddie), William (Bill), Benjamin, and James; six sisters: Rebecca (Becky), Hazel (Judy), Elizabeth (Liz), Eva (Irene), Minnie, and Sarah; as well as beloved infant daughter Donna Lee, grandson Lukas, and daughter-in-law Kim Halliday.

Mary was a 30-year resident of Golden Terraces senior’s housing cooperative, delighting in socializing with dozens of neighbors and serving several terms as a board member over the years.

Mary lived life to fullest through simple pleasures like chatting with friends and family, knitting innumerable dishcloths, McDonald’s caramel sundaes, sweets, and coffee.  Always affable and approachable, Mary was quick to make and keep a friend.  A great listener and advisor, she was like a second mother to many.  She often put the needs of her family ahead of her own, ensuring they had what they needed.  Mary’s loss has left a massive hole in the hearts of her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  In memory of Mary, donations can be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation.  Funeral arrangements are in the professional care of Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Moncton (506-858-1900).

Words of comfort and donations may be made at www.frenettefuneralhome.com
