Stephen James Brown, 66, of Moncton, passed away on Friday
January 10, 2025, at The Moncton Hospital. Born in Moncton, he was the
son of Margaret (Saulnier) Brown of Moncton and the late James
Brown.
Stephen was a lifelong employee of the Federal government in
Moncton, initially with Supply & Services and then with Canada
Post until his retirement.
He is survived by a brother, Michael (Susan) of Mount
Uniacke, N.S.; a sister, Maureen (Liming Liu) of Toronto, ON; two
nieces: Hannah and Kiera, as well as two nephews: Aaron and
Max.
He valued peacefulness and solitude, spending countless hours
reading and studying new topics, listening to music from all genres,
playing guitar or just sitting on a riverbank or Pointe-Du-Chene
wharf, fishing. He was highly intelligent and extremely well read,
nobody in the family dared play Trivial Pursuit or watch an episode of
Jeopardy with him as he was sure to know every answer, regardless of
the topic. As a young adult, that sense of solitude inspired him to
venture to the southern coast of Spain for six months and follow the
path of Hemingway, quite literally, visiting many of the spots
frequented by Hemingway, before returning to his home in
Moncton.
His friends were lifelong, and he valued those relationships
dearly. Colin and Terry, two of his closest childhood friends were
there by his side during the final months of his courageous battle
with cancer. The friends he made at work throughout his career were
also very dear to him and he truly cherished those
relationships.
Our family expresses its heartfelt appreciation to the staff
of The Moncton Hospital Oncology Department for their tireless efforts
and professionalism during Stephen’s final valiant
battle.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation
and no funeral service at this time with a graveside service being
scheduled in the spring. In memory of Stephen, a contribution to the
Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation (oncology) would be
appreciated. Funeral arrangements are in the professional care of
Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Moncton
(506-858-1900).
