It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irma Marie Melanson, 91, of Moncton, on Thursday January 9, 2025 at Albert House of Hospice SENB surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Dosithée Bourgeois and Euphémie Bastarache.

A stay at home mom, she devoted herself to her family. Cooking, sewing, knitting and quilting were her passions. She was a long-time volunteer at the Villa du Repos.

She will be sadly missed by her children: Susan Lavoie (Pierre), Michael Melanson (Gisèle) and Mark Melanson; grandchildren: Julie Lavoie, Mathieu Lavoie, Melanie Wilson, Monica Melanson, Margo Melanson and Marcel Melanson; great-grandchildren: Maëlle, Caleb, Catherine, Etienne and Laurence; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of the Bourgeois family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James Melanson (January 9, 2013), three sisters: Lorraine, Ella and infant Jeannette; and seven brothers: Gerry, Armand, Lionel, Raymond, Blair, Paul and infant Paul.

The family would like to thank Dr. Randy Ward, Dr. Chantal Gallant, Dr. Linda LeBlanc and the team of the Léon-Richard Oncology Centre, the Blanche-Bourgeois EMH team, the staff of Albert House and all those who helped along this challenging journey.

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (506-858-1900) on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm only. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, 43 Botsford Street, Moncton on Thursday January 16 at 11 am. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Moncton. In memory of Irma, a contribution to Hospice SENB (Albert House) or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
