It is with deep sadness that we announce that Professor Joseph Wilkie Darismé, 81 years old, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at the Dr-Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. Born in Arcahaie, Haiti, he was the son of Amila Darismé.

Wilkie Darismé was known for his boundless generosity, his great intelligence, his curiosity about everything, and his unconditional love for his family. His laughter, joie de vivre and profound humanity will remain etched in our hearts. He leaves a legacy of love, wisdom and lasting memories.

He began his studies in Puerto Rico before earning a Master's degree at Université Laval. In 1984, he completed his doctorate in the sociology of economic development at George Washington University. During his long career, he was a professor and researcher at the Université de Moncton's School of Social Work, where he also held the position of Director for several years. He was also deeply involved in the ABPPUM (Association des bibliothécaires et professeures-professeurs de l'Université de Moncton). He left a lasting impression on his colleagues and students through his attentiveness, kindness, critical spirit, commitment and passion for teaching.

He is survived by his two children: Patrice Darismé of California and Amila Landry-Darismé of Dieppe (Gabriel Long); his children’s mothers, Réjeanne Landry and Micheline Beaudry; his grandchildren: Tyler and Gabrielle Darismé; brother and sister: Lesly Templier and Margareth ''Maggie'' Thermitus; aunts: Marie-Jeanne Dalusmé (husband Jean Alexandre) and Chimène Darismé; cousins, in particular Marie Roussette, Aly Alexandre and Émilie Darismé; nephews and nieces including Anderson, Hébert, Jeffrey, Whitney, Kellie, Lookens, Junia, Cindy, as well as the Darismé, Alexandre, Templier, Landry, Beaudry, Polinyce-Thébaud and Rancy families.

Professor Darismé is also survived by many close friends, his colleagues and friends at the Université de Moncton, and the Greater Moncton Haitian community.

He is predeceased by his two brothers: Anthony Templier (wife Nicole Templier) and Robert Templier.

In this time of mourning, we invite all those who knew and loved Professor Wilkie Darismé to join us in celebrating his life on Friday, January 10, from 2 to 4 pm, with a sharing of memories at 3:30 pm at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (560-858-1900).
