She was involved in her community as a member of the CHU Dumont volunteers from the start 50 years ago, a member and president of Dames d'Acadie, a member of Meals-on-Wheels, and a member of various committees of her parishes, among other volunteer work throughout her life.

She is survived by her son, Gilles of Moncton; three sisters: Fernande Drisdelle (late Laurie) of Fox Hill, CT, Bernadette LeBlanc (late Richard) of Moncton and Thérèse Pollock (William « Bill ») of Dieppe; as well as her nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Y. Melanson; one infant son, Gérard; one sister, Stella; one brother, Ulysse; and two infant brothers: Yvon et Yvon.
