It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Raymond "Bennie" Benoit, 100, of Lakeview Manor, Riverview, on Saturday September 28, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in East Tracadie, NS, he was the son of Henry and Charlotte (Deyoung) Benoit.

In his early adult life, he moved to Moncton where he met his late wife Doris (Drisdelle) and had a family of eight children. He was a self-taught furnace technician where he applied his knowledge mostly with Irving Oil.

Raymond and Doris were strong supporters of the Air Cadet League of Canada. He spent several years at the Ray of Hope soup kitchen as a volunteer and maintenance man. Once retired, he loved doing woodwork where he was known as Woodchuck at the People Park Tower. After moving to the Salvation Army Lakeview Manor, he continued with his hobby even expanding his artful knowledge in making his well-known cushions. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus – Council 9270 and a Sir Knight of the 4th degree – Assembly 618. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his children: Léonard (Claudette) of Timmins, ON, Antoine ‘Tony’ (Deborah), Gerald ‘Gerry’ (Marlene) both of Moncton, Charlotte (René Allain) of Orleans, ON, Claudette (Charlie Mayberry) of New Horton and Roger of Shediac; his grandchildren: Jean-Francois, Jason (Kim), Bradley (Shannon), Rachelle (Wade), Elizabeth, Francine (Rej), Aline (Herman), Marie (André), Peter (Estelle), Louis (Darlene), Marc, Pierre (Melissa), Diane (Israel), Yvette, Raymond (Véronique), Stéphanie (Mike) and Christopher (Nadia); as well as 23 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, six sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Doris; two sons: Francis and Timothy ‘Tim’; his grandson, Philippe-André; his second wife, Audrey; as well as one sister, four brothers, seven brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law and one daughter-in-law.

The family would like to thank the employees of the Salvation Army Lakeview Manor for their care and attention to his needs while residing under their care.

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (506-858-1900) on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm with parish prayers at 8:30 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary R.C. church, 5 Fatima Drive, Riverview on Friday October 4 at 11 am. A reception will follow at the Dan Bohan Family Centre. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary cemetery, Dieppe. In memory of Raymond, a contribution to the Ray of Hope Kitchen, the Salvation Army Lakeview Manor or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
