John Alexander "Alex" Dean, 78, of Moncton, passed away on Saturday September 7, 2024 at The Moncton Hospital. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Colin and Lil (Bachman) Dean.

Alex and his wife Maureen were the owners of Harlequin Fashions for 36 years. Prior to Harlequin, he worked in sales with Atlantic Television (ATV) and Xerox. Alex was a graduate of Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1969.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Maureen (Mullane); two children: Erin (Dean) MacPherson (Hector) and Colin Dean; two grandchildren: Callum and Lily; sisters-in-law: Joan Carroll and Cathy Crosby, both of Halifax; brother-in-law, Jon Mullane of Mahone Bay; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Alex (Poppie) was an avid tennis player for many years at CEPS athletic centre. With his sharp wit and humour, he would retell many stories of his time in Banff National Park as a tour bus driver, especially the story of meeting Colonel Sanders of KFC. He loved the retail clothing business, making many friends along the way. He could not get enough business news from CNN to help guide his investment strategy and was a political enthusiast with many colourful descriptions of what he thought was best. Maureen and Alex were inseparable. They grew a family, a business, and a life together that was full of love, humour, and laughs. He will be deeply missed.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation and no funeral service. In memory of Alex, a contribution to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Moncton (506-858-1900).
