It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Joanne McKee, 86, at the Moncton Residence, on July 29, 2024. Born in Bouctouche, she was the daughter of the late Killeen McKee and the late Juliette (Michaud) McKee.

Following her studies at Mount Saint Vincent Academy, Joanne became a nun in the Sisters of Charity congregation in Halifax, with whom she taught in the United States, Québec and Bathurst. Laicized to care for her ailing parents, she had a long career as an immersion teacher at Moncton's Birchmount School.

She is survived by her sister, Isabelle McKee (Greg Allain); her brothers: the honorable Michael McKee (Winnie) and Paul (Louise); her nephews and nieces for whom «Ma tante Nan» was very special: Mélanie Allain (Peter Colbey), Patrick McKee (Alicia Melanson), Dr. Dominic Allain (Denise Capito), Lisa Cormier (Samuel), Sean McKee (Lucie Roy), Sheila Johnston (Ryan), and Rob McKee (Tara), and their children: Cloé-Lin, Maele, Ella, Chas, Michael, Dax, Halle, Anna, and Matéo.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters: Marguerite (1978) and infant Jacqueline; one brother, Reverend Peter McKee (2006); and one nephew, Kevin (2020).

Joanne was a committed volunteer, contributing to a variety of causes through her many sewing and knitting projects, such as tuques and mittens distributed to schools, and individual Christmas decorations for hospital patients. An independent woman who was both generous and critical of certain issues with strong opinions, and an ardent fan of the Montreal Canadiens and Blue Jays, Joanne benefited from many of Brother Walter Comeau's travels. She is survived by many friends.

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (506-858-1900) on Friday August 2 from 2 to 3:45 pm, followed by the funeral service at 4 pm. Interment will be in Bouctouche. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the Centre communautaire Peter McKee Community Food Centre (How to Help - Peter McKee Community Centre Inc. (petermckeecentre.ca)), the Fondation Kevin P. McKee Foundation (https://www.easydonate.com/McKee), the New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity (Support the Coalition | New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity (equite-equity.com)), or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Words of comfort and donations may be made at www.frenettefuneralhome.com
