It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Cormier, on Wednesday July 10, 2024. He was 95 years old. Originally from Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, he was living in Moncton.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Florence Robichaud; his five children: Sylvio, Marise (Jacques LeBlanc), Yves, Line (Léon Boudreau), and Anne (Yves LeBlanc).  His grandchildren: Mathieu, Mélanie, Nicolas, Rémi, and Danika, and great-grandchildren: Évie and Milan, as well as her nieces and nephews, also mourn his passing. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Zoël Cormier and Élise Belliveau, as well as his brothers: Fidèle and Gilbert; his sisters: infants Anise, Lorraine, and Thérèse, and one adoptive sister, Angéla Caissie.

Donald worked in education all his life, as a school principal in Saint-Ignace and Scoudouc, and as a teacher in Sainte-Marie and Moncton (Vanier School).  He ended his career as a guidance counselor in Moncton (Vanier and Mathieu-Martin schools).

He has been involved in various groups such as the Ligue du Sacré-Cœur, the Société historique acadienne, the naturalist club "Les ami(e)s de la Nature" (great interest in birdwatching) and the Parkton Golden Age Club.  He also served the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce parish for 40 years, and sat on the board of directors of the Sainte-Marie, Scoudouc and Notre-Dame-de-Grâce caisses populaires.  He was also interested in family genealogy and the history of Sainte-Marie.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (Parkton) church, 858 Mountain Road, Moncton, on Monday July 15 at 10:30 am. Visiting hours will be at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton, on Sunday July 14, from 7 to 9 pm only.  Interment will be in Sainte-Marie.
