It is with broken
hearts that we announce the passing of Gordon "Grumpy"
Kenneth Fraser on July 9th, 2024, at the Moncton Hospital. Born Gordon
Kenneth, in a wild snowstorm in the winter of 1937 in East River
Island, NS, he was later known to the community as "Choo Choo
train Fraser" in his football days. At 6 foot 4 inches, he was a
hard freight train to stop once he had his hands on that ball. His
determination, grit and abilities for great teamwork was just what was
needed when he chose his career.
Enlisting with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in
1957, he rode those big beautiful black horses, then working
his way up the ladder in a few different places in Canada, till his
retirement in 1987 as Staff sergeant in Fredericton, NB. Responsible
for 18 officers and 3 great secretaries. He then packed up and moved
to Grand-Barachois to live the life of leisure he'd worked so hard
for. Traveling South every year and spending the summer months at the
cottage.
Predeceased by his then wife, Alice (Leger) Fraser in
January 2001, Grumpy was graced with another chance at love when he
reconnected with our mother, Jackie after 40 yrs. He gradually managed
to fill a void in our lives, we hadn't known was there till he marched
in and took over the most important role he'd ever faced...He became
our Dad. Never able to show any emotions on the job, the grandchildren
soon named him "Grumpy". We all found out that he was
ironically a gentle giant wanting and needing to help anyone in need.
He spent years working in his three gardens, yes three! At
the end of the harvest, he would then give it to the nuns, charity
kitchens, and anyone who wanted fresh potatoes or carrots, the fruits
of his labor. We can't forget how much he looked forward to his annual
hunting trip "wink wink" with the boys. Once the old boys
started staying home, he found great joy with anyone that dared to sit
and have a game of crib.
In his later years he bragged about being retired
longer than he worked. But the horrors he witnessed and the few joys
he helped people go through in those working years were always in his
heart and in his thoughts.
He is survived by his wife, soulmate, and sweetheart
of 22 years, Jacqueline LeBlanc Doucet Fraser; a sister, Shirley
Fraser of New Glasgow, NS; three step-children: Charlene Leger (Terry)
of Elgin, NB, Marie Brown of Hubley, NS, and Rick (Sarah Doucet) of
Head Of Saint Margarets Bay, NS; three grandchildren: Natalie (Brad),
Brandyn, and Samantha; three great-grandchildren: Audrey, Owen, and
Ethan, as well as several nieces and nephews that he loved
dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents: Frederick Fraser
and Annie McMillan; his sisters: Elsie Locke and nine year old sister,
Alfreda; two brothers: Fred and Doug.
The family would like to first thank Jean LeBlanc for
all the drives to appointments and back when family couldn't. Thank
