At the
Dr-Georges-L.-Dumont UHC, on Friday June 21, 2024, Joseph Richard died
peacefully at the age of 99. He was the son of Maurice and Devina
(Cormier) Richard of Cap-Pelé.
He leaves to mourn his
children: Bernard (Annie Duguay), Claude, Maria (late André
LeBlanc), and Angèle; his grandchildren: Mathieu,
Nathanaël, Natasha, Timothée, Simon, Patrice,
Gabrielle, and Madeleine; his great-grandchildren: Samuel, Nicholas,
François, Patrick, Lilya, Stella, Xavier, Maggie, Matisse,
Alexandre, and Mélodie; his brothers: Laurie, Euloge and
Léon and his sister Juliette.
In addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Yvonne Goguen (2005),
his daughter Betty (2023) and his son Guy (1971) as well as his
brothers: Hervé, Valérie, Adélard,
and his sisters: Aurore and Lorraine.
Joseph worked as a
logger, laborer, welder, mechanic and environmental inspector during
his long professional career. He distinguished himself by his scathing
reader opinion letters, often steeped in irony, published in the
Moncton newspaper until last year.
He had a fiercely
independent character, living alone in his house and driving his car
until the last week of his life. His opinions were sharp and without
nuance, more often than not, supporting the less popular side of an
argument. He lived without compromise from the beginning to the end of
his days.
Joseph loved his
family and was a generous patriarch concerned about the well-being of
his descendants. He will be greatly missed.
His family thanks the
extra-mural nurses, paramedics and hospital medical staff for their
good care during the last days of Joseph's life.
The funeral will be
celebrated at the Ste-Thérèse d’Avila
church in Cap-Pelé on Saturday, June 29 at 10:30 a.m.
Visitations will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the
Frenette Funeral and Cremation Center in
Cap-Pelé.
In memory of Joseph, a
donation to the Chevaliers Colomb-Pépère lunch
box (Cap-Pelé) or to the Ste-Thérèse
d’Avila parish would be appreciated.
Cremation and funeral
arrangements are under the direction of Frenette Funeral and Cremation
