Valmont Melanson of Moncton passed away peacefully on June
19, 2024 at Gordon Hall Nursing Home at the age of 98. Born
in Moncton, he was the son of the late Léo and Margeret
(Gaudet) Melanson.
Valmont worked as a Dental Technician, a job he loved, for
over 40 years. In the late 1970’s, he became the co-owner of
Moncton Hub Dental Lab, an accomplishment for which he was very proud.
He enjoyed the great outdoors and spending time at his camp in Hunters
Home and at his cottage at Plage Hirondelle. His favourite hobbies
were wood working, hunting and fishing. A strong Acadian, Valmont
found great joy playing cards, especially crib, as well as watching
baseball and hockey – cheering on the New York Yankees and
Montreal Canadians.
Valmont and Anita were avid travellers with Florida and
Europe on the top of the list of their favourite destinations. Valmont
was a former member of the United Commercial Travellers #758, board
member of the Boys and Girls Club in Parkton and one of the
co-founders of the Plage Hirondelle Association.
He is survived by his children: Paul (Carol Anne) of Moncton,
Rodrigue of Moncton, and Valerise (Graeme) Ogilvie of Dieppe; five
grandchildren: Léo Melanson, Julie (Stephen) Noel both from
Alberta, Andréa (Luc) LaPlante of Dieppe, Luc Ogilvie of
Dieppe and Isabelle (Jonathan) Mpunge of Dieppe; three
great-grandchildren: Theo and Felix Laplante, and Noah Mpunge; one
brother, Arnaud (late Jeannine); as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his special friend, Anna
Boudreau.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 57
years, Anita (Caissie); two sisters: Andréa
(René) Poirier and Simone (Donald) Forbes; and three
brothers: Virgil, Jean-Paul, and Pierre.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the caring
and compassionate staff at the Gordon Hall Nursing
Home.
