John Pak Chong Chan, 71,
of Moncton, passed away on Friday May 24, 2024 at The Moncton
Hospital. Born in Hoi Ping, China, he was the son of the late Henry
Sze Ming and Bonita Ti (Woo) Chan.
John immigrated to Canada
in 1971, seeking new opportunities and a better future.
He settled in Sussex where he embraced his passion for
cooking and began his career as a chef. He later moved to
Moncton and his culinary talents soon became well-known,
and he spent over three decades delighting patrons with his
exquisite Chinese cuisine at various esteemed restaurants
throughout the city. His dedication to his craft earned him
respect and admiration from colleagues and customers
alike.
Beyond his professional
achievements, John was a devoted father and
grand-father. John’s family was his greatest joy,
and he cherished every moment spent with
them. John’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering work
ethic left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. He
will be remembered for his generous spirit, his infectious smile,
and his ability to bring people together through the love of
food. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and
friends, and in the countless lives he touched through
his culinary skills.
He will be deeply missed
and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing
him.
He is survived by his
son, Jason Chan (Jessica) of Ten Mile House, PEI; four grandchildren:
Mason, Cameron, Parker, and Aurora; one sister, Shirley Mak (David) of
Toronto, ON, four brothers: Truman (Lin Feng) of Moncton, William
(Rose Mary), Richard (Elisa), and Patrick (Anna), all of Toronto, ON;
as well as his nieces: Minnie, Clarissa (Alvin), and Jessica; and
nephews: Michael(deceased), Peter, James, Kenneth, Victor (Christine)
and Michael.
The family will receive
condolences at Frenette Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton
(506-858-1900) from where the funeral will be celebrated on Tuesday
May 28 at 11 am. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 9 am until time of
funeral. Interment will be at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe. In
memory of John, a contribution to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital
Foundation (oncology) would be appreciated.
