Helen Bateman, 89, of Shediac Cape, passed away
suddenly at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC on Friday January 12, 2024.
Born June 9, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Roy Murray and
Jessie (Stright), and spouse of Nowell Hubert (Bert)
Bateman.
Beloved mother of Murray Bateman (Carol) of Wasaga
Beach, ON, Carolyn VanBuskirk (Chris) of Moncton, and Jeffrey Bateman
(Erika) of Pointe-Claire, QC. Loving grandmother to Thomas (Katie),
Colleen (Andrew), Samuel, Kelly, Isabelle (Logan), Gregory, Marika,
and Willa. Adoring great-grandmother to Iris and Violet (Thomas), and
Grace (Isabelle).
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased
by her son, Stanley Robert, and sisters: Sylvia Anne Mollins and
Muriel Connors.
Helen was a teacher of Home Economics for forty-two
years in Port-Elgin and the Moncton area. A lifelong member of St.
Martin's in the Woods Anglican Church, Helen was very active in the
life of the church. She was a former volunteer with St. John Ambulance
and Hospice Shediac, a member of Eastern Star Zetland Chapter # 26,
delivered meals to seniors for many years. She was a founding member
of the Shediac Cape School Breakfast
Program.
Visitation will be at St. Martin's in the Woods
Anglican Church, 3394 Route 134, Shediac Cape on Friday January 19,
2024 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held at
St. Martin's in the Woods Anglican Church on Saturday, January 20,
2024 at 2 pm; Rev Brent Ham officiating. Interment will occur at a
later date. Reception to follow at the Young Smith
Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be
made to the Stanley R. Bateman Memorial Fund or to the charity of the
donor’s choice.
