Major J. Bernard Poirier, CD, 86, of Shediac, passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, January 11, 2024. From Saint-Louis-de-Kent, NB, he was the son of the late Louis et Janita (Goguen) Poirier.

He retired in 1989 after serving 33 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, Military Police. He had postings in Cyprus, Damascus and all over Canada. After his retirement from the military, he served as Shediac Police Chief for five years. A Bridge Life Master, he seldom missed the opportunity to play with his devoted partners: Emery and Annette

He is survived by the love of his life, Brenda (LeBlanc); his three children: Lloyd (Natalia) of Vancouver, Angela (Tom Martin) of Halifax and Jonathan (Terri) of Calgary; four siblings: Rose Poirier Robichaud of Moncton, Yvette Robichaud of Moncton, Lilianne Blanchard of Notre-Dame and Marion Blanchard of Moncton; seven grandchildren: Joe Martin, Louis Martin, Samuel Martin, Frankie Martin, Lauren Poirier, Julia Poirer and Jonathan Poirier and many great grand dogs.

He was predeceased by his siblings: Gérard, Elmo, Samuel, Donald and Denise.

A passionate gardener, Bernie was known for cultivating "the finest potatoes in all of Shediac" which he incorporated in his many gourmet dinners. Bernie selflessly dedicated himself to caring for his beloved life partner and wife of 63 years, Brenda and their dog Maggie. He was a larger than life person who will be missed by a wide circle of friends, family and all those who knew him.
