It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Doris Gautreau,
94, of Moncton, NB, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2023
at Ocean Hall. Born in Newport Station, NS, she was the
daughter of the late George and Josephine (Steeves) Kearns. Besides
her parents, she was predeceased by her soulmate and husband, Alfred
"Freddie" Gautreau; and by her siblings: Al, Kay (Cameron),
Pauline (Berry), Reg, Don, Laura, and Gerry Kearns.
In her younger years, she loved skating, dancing, and, of
course, Elvis. She found great joy in taking photographs of
family and friends, an interest she continued throughout her life,
passing along that passion to her children and grandchildren and she
left behind hundreds of treasured photos of those who were on her life
journey. Mom was also very creative and kept busy sewing,
knitting, crocheting and quilting and always had a project on the
go.
Together mom and dad created a warm, loving and inviting home
for family and friends, making everyone feel welcome and spoiled with
the many homemade treats she would have ready to share. Her
love of chocolate was legendary and was a staple in our house.
Mom’s favorite times of the year were when family
gathered in Moncton for Christmas and at the Bluff for cottage time
where so many cherished memories were made with love and laughter as
music, cards and games filled the days for all.
Mom was a loving, kind, caring, generous and giving person,
and her loss is so deeply felt. Left to mourn are her three
children: Paul (Gayle) of Burlington, ON, Julie of South
Williamston, NS, and Carolyn (Andy) of Moncton; three beloved
grandchildren: Sarah (Caton) of Calgary, AB, Emilie (Joe) of Brickton,
NS, and Michael of South Williamston, NS; four precious
great-grandchildren: Patrick, Jack, Ethan and Alice; one much-loved
sister, Helen Ogilvie of Dartmouth, NS; as well as many nieces and
nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Frenette Funeral Centre, 88
Church St. Moncton (506-858-1900) on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 2:00
pm. The funeral service will be streamed live; to view the funeral, go
to her obituary on the Frenette Website. There will be no
visitation.
Interment will be at Our Lady of Calvary cemetery in Dieppe
at a later date.
In memory of Doris, a contribution to a charity of the
donor’s choice would be appreciated.
