Roger Gallant, 77, of Shediac, passed away peacefully
at his residence on Friday May 12, 2023 surrounded by his loving
family. Born in Shediac, he was the son of the late Alfred
Poitras of Grand-Falls, NB, and late Regina Gallant (LeBlanc) of
Shediac.
Prior to his retirement, Roger spent many years as a
mechanic working at Romeo’s Marine and the Town of Shediac
before moving on and teaching small engine repair at NBCC
Dieppe. He finished his career working as a Commissionaire
at the Government of Canada Pension
Centre.
Roger’s passion was music! For
many years, he was the lead singer and guitar player for the band
Gunsmoke, playing and singing at various bars and open-mic
nights.
He is survived by his
wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Gracie-Gallant; son, Brian Gallant
(Shirley Hicks) of Moncton; daughter, Christine Gallant (Yann Pichon)
of Shediac; step-daughter, Christina Savoie-Lindsay (Peter) of St.
Stephen; a brother, Robert "Bob" Gallant (late Deanna) of
Shediac; a sister, Shirley LeBlanc (late Roger) of
Pointe-du-Chêne; four haft-sisters: Anne Plourde (late
Rodolphe) of Grand-Falls, Patricia Rioux (Carmel) of
Grand-Falls, Rachel Poitras of Grand-Falls, and Frances Gorey (Corey
Hamlin) of Maine; two haft-brothers: George Poitras (Georgette) of
Drummond and Danny Poitras (Donna) of Fort St. John; three
grand-children: Joshua, Sipotjiitj "Sipo", and Emilie; two
step-grandchildren: Connor and MJ, as well as many nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Besides his parents, he
was predeceased by his first wife, Rolande Gallant (Boudreau) of 46
years in 2014.
In accordance with Roger’s wishes, there
will be no visitation and no funeral service. His final resting place
will be in the Frenette Funeral Centre Columbarium in Shediac. In
memory of Roger, a contribution to the New Brunswick Extra Mural
Program (Shediac) or to the CHU Dumont Foundation would be appreciated
by the family.
