Yvon Chiasson, 80, husband of Colette (nee Matte) Chiasson for 58 years, of Moncton and formerly of Dalhousie, passed away on April 9, 2023 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC in Moncton, N.-B.  Born in Kénogami, Qué., he was the son of the late Yvonne (née Larocque) and the late Walter Chiasson.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Marlene (Ryan Shepperd) of Leesburg, Virginia; his son, Walter (Annie Northrup) of Grand-Barachois, N.-B.; his grandchildren: Daphnée and Nicholas of Dieppe, Liam of Leesburg and Ayden of Grand-Barachois; his sisters and his brother: Anna (Raymond Cormier) of Campbellton, Pierre "Pete" (late Barbara Phillips) of Niagara Falls, Ont., and Jeannette (Gervais Cormier) of Bathurst; the Matte family members, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

He is now resting with his parents and sisters: Yvonne, Rita and Thérèse, as well as his brother, Hudon.

Prior to his retirement, Yvon worked for over 30 years at the NBIP Pulp and Paper Mill in Dalhousie where he held a groundwood role and was union president for Local 146.  Even in retirement, he told many stories of his favorite moments at work, but especially precious moments with his colleagues/friends who were dear to him throughout his career and after his retirement.  Even in the afterlife, we are convinced that he is sitting around a table having coffee with his friends to talk about union.

He was a big fan of camping and bluegrass music and nothing made him happier than parking his motorhome on a lot during bluegrass festivals to listen to music with friends.

He loved his grandchildren more than anything and loved to make them laugh by singing songs to them. He was an outstanding storyteller and children enjoyed taking part in his stories.

We would like to thank the 4C staff, Dr. Jean-François Baril, Dr. Ghislain Lavoie and Dr. Martin Robichaud from the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. Special thanks to Paulette Saulnier for helping Colette and Yvon during his illness.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John Bosco church, 470 Victoria Street, Dalhousie, N.B., on Wednesday July 12, 2023 at 11 am. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Interment will be in parish cemetery. In memory of Yvon, a contribution to a charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements are in the professional care of Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Moncton (858-1900).
