It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
Kenneth George Christie, which occurred Monday, March 20th, 2023, at
The Moncton Hospital, at the age of 92. He was born on February 13th,
1931 and resided in Moncton, NB. His parents, C.W. and Violet
(née King) Christie, predeceased him, as did his sisters,
Yvonne Wilcox and Margaret Carnell.
Ken was born and resided in Graves End, England, until the
age of 17, when he joined the Merchant Navy, providing him
opportunities to travel the world. With a nudge from his surviving
sister, Eileen Za of Oakville, ON, Ken moved to Canada and began
working for Northern Electric. This work led him to Moncton, NB, where
he fell in love with his beloved wife of 56 years, Jeannette
(née Melanson). Together they had two children, son John
Charles (Chantal) of Saint Antoine, NB, and daughter Susan (Gillian)
of Shediac, NB. To be closer to his family, Ken worked for CN Rail
until he retired.
In his spare time, Ken loved reading, walking with Jeannette,
and lawn or alley bowling, but he especially loved Sunday dinners with
his family. When needed, Ken was always ready to lend a helping hand.
He was known to be a quiet man but could make anyone smile with an
unexpected one liner or by flashing his handsome grin.
The family would like to thank everyone who has offered love
and support during these difficult times. A very special thanks to the
many health care workers who supported Ken with their professional
care, both at home and at the hospital.
In honouring Ken’s wishes, no service or visitation
will be held. Interment will be at Our Lady of Calvary cemetery in
Dieppe. A donation to Parkinson Canada or the Friends of The Moncton
Hospital Foundation can be made in honour of Ken’s memory.
Funeral arrangements are in the professional care of Frenette Funeral
and Cremation Centre, Moncton, NB.
