Gilles Guérette passed away peacefully at the Pavillon Landry, Faubourg du Mascaret in Moncton on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at the age of 78.  Born in Edmundston, raised in Kedgwick, he was the son of the late Patrick and Germaine (Normandeau) Guérette.

He began his career in Fredericton at municipal affairs as an urban planner, then in Campbellton for 28 years as Director of the Restigouche District Planning Commission.

Gilles was a cultivated and spiritual man. Being a person of faith, he devoted himself to the Catholic Church and read the Bible every day. His favourite hobbies were reading, photography, video editing, computer programming, genealogy, astronomy, bicycling, cross-country skiing, kayaking, hiking, and landscaping. There were many vacations in Québec where he visited botanical gardens, churches, museums, book, and music stores. His appreciation for music was often shared with his wife at the Festival de musique baroque in Lamèque as well as the concerts of Jeunesses musicales in Dalhousie.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Thérèse LaForge; two children: Jean-Marc (Tina Arseneault) of Allardville, and Marie-Josée (Dominic Leblanc) of Moncton; his dear granddaughter, Noémie Gaïa Pitre (Justin Rioux) of St. John's, Newfoundland; his three brothers: Jean (Sonia Vigneault) of Ottawa, Ontario, Paul (Lisette Couturier) of Shediac and Jacques (Diane Savoie) of Campbellton; two sisters: Suzanne (James MacGregor) of Morocco and Anne (Armel Audet) of Eel River; his sister-in-law, Micheline Lavallée-Guérette of Moncton; as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces of the large LaForge, Guérette and Normandeau families.

Besides his parents, Gilles was predeceased by his brother Robert in 2022 and his sister Lise Schuman in 2019.

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) where the funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday January 5 at 2 pm. Visiting hours are Thursday from 12 pm until time of funeral. The funeral service will be streamed live; to view the funeral, go to his obituary on our Website. Interment will be at Frenette Columbarium in Moncton. In memory of Gilles, a contribution to the Alzheimer Society or the PAW (People for Animal Wellbeing) would be appreciated.
