Jeanne E. Cormier, 97, of Moncton, wife of the late Laurie Cormier, passed away on Friday December 9, 2022 at Hospice SENB Albert House. Born in Scoudouc, she was the daughter of the late Alban Melanson and Lydie (Gaudet) Melanson-Bastarache.

Jeanne is survived by one sister-in-law, Elia Melanson, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Besides her parents and her husband (2011), she was predeceased by two sisters: Fernande Melanson (2009) and Anita Thibodeau-Babin (2010); six brothers: Emery (1979), Albert (1998), Alfred (2000), Aldérice (2003), Paul-Émile (2005) and Edmond (2007); as well as five infant sisters and brothers.

She moved to Moncton at the age of 14. Jeanne was a teacher for 31 years and closely followed the success of her many nieces, nephews and students, as if they were her own children. She was a member of the Société des enseignants et enseignantes francophones retraités du Nouveau-Brunswick (SERF) and Golden Age Clubs which she kept close to her heart.

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm only. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Notre-Dame-de-Ia-Paix Church, 87 Murphy Avenue, Moncton, on Moncton December 12 at 11 am. The funeral mass will be videotaped, and the video will be available on her obituary on our Website at the end of the day. Interment will be in Saint-Antoine. In memory of Jeanne, a contribution to the Knights of Columbus - Council 11985 - St-Alphonse de Ligouri (children’s breakfast) would be appreciated.
