It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
Andréa O’Brien, wife of the late Alfred
O’Brien, at the age of 94 years, on Friday September 16,
2022, at the Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur residence, Dieppe
and formerly of Shediac. Born in Cape-Pelé, she was the
daughter of the late Ernest and Louise (Léger)
Bourque.
Andréa worked for the town of Shediac as assistant
to the Town Manager for many years. Prior to that she worked as
administrative assistant for the Honourable Roméo
LeBlanc, Fisheries Minister.
Following her retirement, she was actively involved with the
Shediac Golden Age Club and a member of the Ladies
Auxiliaries.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her large
family. She had many talents; she was a great cook and seamstress. Her
home was always open to anyone. Her hobbies were crossword
puzzles, reading the news and watching her favorite game shows,
"Wheel of fortune" and "Jeopardy". When she was in
her mid-eighties, she was gifted with an IPad and enjoyed it
immensely. She followed all her family on social media.
During the Covid lockdown, it gave her great comfort to be able to
facetime with her family when unable to visit in
person.
We wish to thank the personnel of NDSC for the excellent care
they provided to our Mom.
She is survived by seven children: Rose-Marie (Mike Vautour)
of Grand-Barachois, Paul (Edna) of Ottawa, Raymond (Pauline) of
Cocagne, Danny of Scoudouc, Ernie (Nathalie) of Shediac, Pauline
Gaudet (Maurice) of Shediac and Sandra Vienneau of Shediac Cape; two
brothers: Camille and Hervé (Dorine) all of Shediac; one
sister, Ernestine Targett (Arnold) of Shediac; four sister in-laws:
Edith Bourque, Marina Bourque and Bella Bourque all of Shediac, and
Émerise Bourque of Quebec; 19 grandchildren; 29
great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, as well as
several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a
son, Roland and his late wife, Shelley O’Brien; four
brothers: Aimé, Oscar, Bernard, and Louis; one sister,
Thérèse Rhéaume.
As per her wishes, there will be no visitation at the funeral
centre. The funeral mass will be celebrated at the St-Joseph R.C.
Church, 415 Main Street, Shediac on Monday September 26, 2022, at 4
pm. Interment will be in parish cemetery. In memory of
Andréa, a contribution to the
Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur Nursing Home, Dieppe (activity
department) or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be
appreciated.
Funeral arrangements are in the professional care of Frenette
Funeral and Cremation Centre, Shediac (532-3297).
