Angeladea Marcantonio, of Moncton, passed away peacefully on
September 4, 2022 at the age of 97. Born in Valle San Giovanni,
Teramo, Italy, Angelina was the daughter of Egidio and Domenica
Moranti.
In 1951, she married Emidio Marcantonio, the love of her
life. Together, with their children Pasqualino and Evelina, they
emigrated to New Brunswick with nothing but an immigrant work ethic
and a dream of providing their children unlimited
opportunities.
Angelina was known for her incredible cooking. She was proud
of her 30 years working at Woolworth restaurant in downtown Moncton
and she continued to make their memorable cheesecake after her
retirement. Friends and family knew they were lucky when she gave them
one of her freshly made loaves of bread or delicious pasta
sauce.
To her family, she will be remembered for her unconditional
love, quick wit, and larger-than-life personality. Angelina never let
her lack of formal education limit her. She had a keen intelligence
and her advice and counsel will be deeply missed.
Affectionately known as Nonna, she is survived by her
children: Pasqualino and Evelina (John Thomas); grandchildren: Andrea
Marcantonio (Clarke), Mario Marcantonio, Andrew Thomas (Melissa), and
Christopher Thomas; great-grandchildren: Evan and Emily MacDonald, and
Ari John Thomas; her sister, Nicolina DiDomenico; as well as many
nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,
Emidio Marcantonio.
Her family would like to thank all the staff at Briarlea for
the care, compassion and dignity that they showed her.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and
Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Sunday
September 11 from 2 to 4 pm only. The funeral mass will be celebrated
at Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral, 220 St. George Street, Moncton on
Monday September 12 at 11 am. Interment will be at Our Lady of Calvary
cemetery in Dieppe. In lieu of flowers, in memory of Angelina, a
donation to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
