James "Jimmie" Cook, 94, formerly of Sunset Village
in Moncton, passed away on Saturday May 14, 2022 at the Pavillon
Richard of Faubourg du Mascaret. Born in St. Margarets, he was the son
of the late James and Alma (Vautour) Cook and adoptive son of the late
Jaques and Josephine (Vautour) Babineau.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a carpenter. Both
immediate and extended family were integral to Jimmie's life. In his
long retirement, he offered his time and skills to help others. He had
a lifelong love of music and enjoyed playing the
fiddle.
He is survived by his loving friend,
Thérèse Fontaine; four children: Diane Repoli
(Michael), Florence Cook (Dave), Donald Cook (Maggie), and Susan Cook;
four grandchildren: Melissa, Michelle, Lucie-Claire, and Zazzi; three
great-grandchildren: Ryder, Tanner, and Owen; his adoptive brothers
Robert and Bernard Leblanc ; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law:
Janine, Hélèna, Ulysse (Madeline),
Gérard (Jeannette), Léo (Jeannette), and Simonne
(Alfred); as well as several nieces and nephews and an adoptive
nephew. He was the last surviving member of his immediate
family.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Clara
Johnson; seven siblings: Frank (Dolly), Clara (Boyd & Alison),
Tessie, Bertie, Alice, Mary, and Ray; adoptive sibling: Lucienne; and
sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Antoine, Elva, Cécile
(Jean), Imre "Jimmy", Gilles, Fernand, and
Emma.
The family will receive condolences at the
Immaculée-Conception Church slumber room, 4049 Route 480,
Acadieville, where the funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday May
21 at 11 am. Visiting hours are Saturday May 21 from 9:30 am until
time of funeral. Face covering and social distancing is strongly
recommended. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, in memory of Jimmie, corporal works of
mercy are encouraged -including but not limited to
visits/letters/calls to Susan, support of La Maison Nazareth and
Enviroplus, or helping another preferred charity. Funeral arrangements
are under the direction of Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre,
Moncton (858-1900).
