The family is sad to announce that Robert MacDougall, 58, of
Moncton, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on
Saturday January 29, 2022 following a short courageous second battle
with cancer. Born in Moncton, he was the son of Emerise (LeBlanc)
MacDougall and the late Dilmer MacDougall.
Robert’s four year journey of cancer treatment,
numerous trips to Halifax for two surgeries and treatment followed by
long convalescent periods were always borne with a positive attitude
and an optimistic outlook. An example of courage and optimism for all
of us.
He is survived by his wife Colette Niles with whom he doted
for the 30 plus years together; his mother Emerise whom he loved
dearly and visited regularly with a pizza on almost every Saturday for
sharing over a pleasant afternoon; sisters: Brenda, Cindy (Greg), and
Marilyn (Peter); brothers: John (Sandra) and Stephen (Karen); as well
as several nieces and nephews that he loved and treated as his
own.
He was predeceased by his father Dilmer (1982) and brother
Kenny (2018).
Robert was a quiet man who was always willing to lend a hand
wherever needed moving furniture for friends and family or any jobs
that needed doing. He was a great help to his former "Boss"
and friend Adrian, with whom he worked over a number of years and his
current "Boss" and friend John with whom he worked during
recent years. The family wishes to acknowledge the support John
provided to Robert and Colette during his cancer
journey.
Robert loved company and enjoyed listening to stories or
better still challenge his visitors to a game of Crib that he played
like a mathematician! He also excelled at darts and looked forward to
the start of the season every fall where he could again share some
comradery and a cold Coors Lite.
Although life was not always easy for Colette and Robert
health wise, they always maintained a positive outlook and even
managed two short Florida vacations with the Niles on Honeymoon Island
prior to Robert’s illness. Robert also liked to travel to
Cap-Pelé for his all-time favourite yearly birthday meal of
fried clams followed by a long walk at l’Aboiteau Beach. The
simple things in life gave him a great deal of joy.
But his greatest joy in life and when happiest was when he
could be with the MacDougall clan whenever they gathered to celebrate
events, particularly when his brothers John and Stephen visited from
Toronto. He loved his family dearly.
Robert’s life can be summed up by "He was a
good man". He will be missed.
The family would also like to acknowledge the excellent care
provided at both The Moncton Hospital and the Dr. Georges.-L.-Dumont
UHC during Robert’s journey. The professional care provided
and support to the family is most appreciated.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and
Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) where the
funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday June 29, 2022 at 4 pm.
Visiting hours are Wednesday June 29 from 2 pm until time of funeral.
Face covering is
recommended. Interment will be in Frenette
Columbarium, Moncton. In memory of Robert, a contribution to the
Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Mental Health Association (New
Brunswick) would be appreciated.
