was the son of the late Laurie and Blanche (Cormier)
Cormier.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Claudette
(Landry); his sister, Geneviève (late Franklin) Delaney of
Montréal, QC; brother-in-law, René (Janice)
Landry of Moncton; sister-in-law, Thérèse (Guy)
Landry-Martin of Moncton. Having been a member of the Big Brother
organization for some 40 years, he also leaves behind his little
brother, Gilles Gauvin. Also dear to his heart are two nieces: Chantal
and Danielle of Montréal, QC, and goddaughter, Guylaine of
Ottawa, ON.
After receiving his degree in Business Administration from
the Université de Moncton, Maurice embarked in a career
with the Federal Government. He rose through the ranks and was
Regional Director for Transport Canada upon his retirement in
1997.
With a passion, he began to collect paintings by Acadian
Artists. Not satisfied, he would then research the lives of each and
every artists in his collection. After 15 years, he compiled his
findings in a book entitled "L’Acadie sur Toile *
Artscape of Acadie".
When his health started to decline, he donated his entire
collection of some 1,200 paintings to the "Musée de
