Omer Donald Robichaud, 82, formerly of Barachois, passed away
peacefully on Sunday November 7, 2021 at the Faubourg du Mascaret in
Moncton. His beloved wife of 56 years, Régina Robichaud
(Babineau) was at his bedside.
Besides his wife, left to grieve him are his two sons: Guy
Robichaud (Chantal Matar) and Jules Robichaud (Nadia Korol); and his
grandchildren: Samuel, Raphaël, Nicolas, Nina, and Elisabeth.
The youngest son of Adolphe Robichaud and Aline (Melanson), he is also
survived by his brother, Normand, as well as numerous nephews and
nieces.
He was predeceased by his brothers: Robert,
Gérard, Charles, Henri, Louis, Alonzo, Rodolphe, Edgar,
Alfred, Alphé, and Donald, as well as his sisters: Emilie
(Belliveau), Laura (Leblanc), Maria (Archambault), and Anita
(Landry).
Omer was the former Dean at the Faculty of Education at the
Université de Moncton. He completed his doctoral studies at
the University of Minnesota and was involved in numerous professional
organizations throughout his career including serving as the President
of the national board of Council of Exceptional
Children.
To his students and colleagues, he was known as Dr. Omer
Robichaud or Professor Robichaud, but to his grandchildren, he was
Grand Papa or Jedo. Always calm and thoughtful, always considerate and
kind, he was a teacher, mentor, and friend to all.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and
Cremation Centre, 396 Main Street, Shediac (532-3297) Wednesday from
12:30 pm until time of departure (2:40). The funeral mass will be
celebrated at Saint-Henri de Barachois R.C. Church, 1356 Route 133,
Grand-Barachois on Wednesday November 10 at 3 pm. Face
covering is mandatory, and proof of vaccination and government issued
identification card are required to enter the funeral centre and the
church. The funeral mass will be videotaped, and the
video will be available on his obituary on our Website at the end of
the day. Interment will be in Grand-Barachois. In memory of Omer, a
contribution to a charity of the donor’s choice would be
appreciated.
