John Layden, 82, of Dieppe and formerly of Acadieville, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC. Born in Mechanic Settlement, NB, he was the son of the late John and Alberta (Gallant) Layden.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 55 years, Zella (Robichaud) Layden; one daughter, Carol-Ann Wheaton (Dani) of Pollett River; two sons: Paul (Chantal) of Dieppe, Michael (Sandra Arsenault) of Collpitts Settlement; three grandchildren of whom he was very proud: Sean, Danny and Cameron; one sister, Andrea Evans (Phillip) of Dieppe and his extended family.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sons, John (Michelle) Layden and Gary Layden. One brother, Urban.

John was well respected and loved within the community with countless hours of volunteering as President of the Caisse Populaire, coaching sports or blazing the campaign trail.  He was a hockey coach and mentor to his beloved students throughout his 35 year career as a school teacher and principal.  His greatest pride were his children and grandchildren.  He had a passion for adventure, music, sports and the outdoors.  He loved to travel and once retired, he and his wife Zella enjoyed their winters in Myrtle Beach for many years.  His home was his family and he always made time for them.  His generosity and kindness knew no bounds and his heart and home were always open to anyone in need.

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Tuesday July 27, 2021 from 2 pm until time of funeral which will be celebrated at 4pm at the funeral centre. Due to the pandemic, face coverings are required and a maximum participation of 100 people with social distancing regulations are in effect. Interment will be in the parish cemetery in Acadieville at a later date. In memory of John, a contribution to the CHU Dumont Foundation (Cardiology Unit) would be appreciated.
