With heavy hearts, we announce that Karen has passed away peacefully on Friday June 25th, 2021. Born in St Stephen, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Dorothy (McKay) Sweeney.

After retiring from CN (law and real estate), she pursued the two passions in her life, golf and her family. If she wasn’t on the golf course, she was on a train to Bathurst to visit her special grandson Nicholas, and her cherished daughter Wendi Sue. Karen was happiest beside her loving husband who was her greatest supporter. She always looked forward to her brothers and sister, and their families arriving home for summer holidays and special occasions. They would often gather at the Boone cottage at Melmerby beach, New Glasgow, where they would reminisce and meet the new babies and new members of the clan. These were very special times for Karen.

Karen is survived by her husband of 42 years, Eric; her son Paul of Moncton; her daughter Wendi Colton (Phil) of Bathurst; four brothers: John (Barbara) of Toronto, Jim (Valerie) of Dartmouth, Dave (Jady) of Calgary and Bernard (Dorothy) of St Stephen; her sister Kimberly (Paul) of Kingston; her very special grandchild whom she adored, Nicholas Colton; as well as several nieces and nephews, many friends and extended family members.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her infant son Mark and her brother Steven.

Karen’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the 4600 wing of The Moncton Hospital who provided tender care and professionalism during Karen’s final days.

Honouring Karen’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. In memory of Karen, a contribution to the SPCA would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements are in the professional care of Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Moncton (858-1900).
