Louis E. Landry, 93, of Shediac, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday June 12, 2021. Born in Dupuis Corner, he was the son of the late Edvard and Edith (LeBlanc) Landry.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 70 years, Rita née Cormier, five children: Guy Landry of Shediac, Joanne Landry (Laszlo Szabo) of Ottawa, Janice Laturnus (Gregory) of Shediac, Yvette Landry-Smith (Stephen) of Moncton and Jacqueline Landry (Dr Marc Bourcier) of Grand-Barachois; five brothers and sisters: Archangela Bourque (late Philippe), Émerise Léger (Henri), Emery (Lorraine) all of Shediac, Angèle Mouland (late Bill) of Moncton and Charles-Yvon (Lisa) of Grand-Barachois; four grandchildren: Katherine, Madeleine, Dax and Liane, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters: Aurèle, Lionel, Napoléon, Dismas, Céleste, Alfred, Joseph, Marie, Ferdinand, Edvard and Arsène.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather spending many week ends with his family at the Camp.

He was the ninth child in a family of seventeen and at age 14, quit school to work on the family farm. 

In 1949, his business career began at the age of 22, as he obtained a Massey Harris (now Massey Ferguson) sub dealership.  He opened his first store in Shediac in 1954 selling farm equipment as well as appliances and televisions.  Shortly after, he and his brothers Joseph and Ferdinand operated Landry Brothers Furniture store. In 1965, he established Atlantic Ski doo Ltd. - distributor of Bombardier Ski doo in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and in les Îles de la Madeleine and in 1976 completed construction of Mall Centre-Ville in downtown Shediac.

From 1970 until 1987, he served as vice chairman, NB Power.

Over the years, he was active in many organizations in Shediac including: founding President of Villa Providence Nursing Home, President of the Shediac Lobster Festival, President of the Shediac Athletic Club, President of le club Richelieu.  Furthermore, he served as alderman on the Shediac Town Council for a four year term.

In 2003 he was the recipient of the YMCA Peace Medal, in 2013 he received the first Entrepreneur of the year award from the Greater Shediac Chamber of Commerce and Shediac Downtown Association and in 2017, he was inducted into the Town of Shediac Wall of Fame.

Due to the pandemic, there will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. The funeral mass for the immediate family will be held at a later date at St Joseph Roman Catholic church. The funeral arrangements are in the professional care of the Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Shediac (506-532-3297).
