Sister Agnes Bellefontaine, in religion, Sister Marie Sainte Marguerite, passed away on Saturday June 12, 2021 at The Moncton Hospital. She was a resident of Monarch Hall in Riverview, N.B. She was 94 years old and in the 67th year of religious life. Born in Chéticamp, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Leo Bellefontaine and the late Helen Casey.

Besides her religious family, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Sister Agnes was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her eight brothers and sisters: Rita, Bernadette, Margaret, f.j., Stella, f.j., Alma, J. Vincent, Leonard and Arthur.

Sister Agnes spent most of her active religious life in a hospital environment: patient admission, health care of the sick and elderly and pastoral care of the sick. She first worked at the Dalhousie Hospital for 18 years; then she lived in Charlo, N.B., where she divided her time between teaching catechesis and reception at the rectory. She also worked as a nurse with our sick and elderly Sisters in Moncton before spending 13 years in Chéticamp, N.S., where she provided pastoral care to the sick and other services.

The celebration of Agnes’ life will be held on Thursday June 17 at 1:30 pm with a Celebration of the Word presided by Father Edmour Babineau. Visitations will start at 1 pm with Covid restrictions in place and a maximum participation of 50 people at a time. The funeral service will be streamed live; to view the funeral, go to her obituary on our Website. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary cemetery, Dieppe.
