It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Margaret Elizabeth Gould (nee Thompson) on May 9, 2021 in The Moncton Hospital surrounded by her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was our family matriarch and lived that role to its fullest.
Born in Springhill, NS, to Kenneth Ross and Audrey Grace Thompson (nee Brown), she grew up in Amherst, NS, and moved to Moncton in 1957, and took up final residence in Riverview and Lower Coverdale NB. Her love of Nova Scotia never left her, spending her formative years on the Brown and Thompson homesteads with her grandparents. They instilled in her a strong sense of purpose, family, love, and nature.
She lived a great life filled with love. Marg married the love of her life, Garnet Cecile Gould on May 7, 1966. They raised their family in West Riverview, NB, and the past 35 years in Lower Coverdale, NB in their own homestead they built together in 1986. Their love was special, especially in the later years of their marriage where they looked after each other in a way that was inspiring. Their courtship included lots of time on the Bay of Fundy shore in Parrsboro and Advocate Harbour, NS, and Little Bouctouche River, NB. These memories are many for our family.
Marg’s early career was with the City of Moncton. Although Marg’s true career was her family, she managed the Moncton Civic Credit Union from its inception, working largely from home as its General Manager. As a woman of many talents, she helped Garnet start up Garnet’s Masonry and managed that business from home as well. There was even a personal business interest, Kat-Ken Ceramics, where she shared her love of ceramics with the neighbourhood. She was always doing something, learning a new craft, doing a new project. Early in their marriage, they built a one-of-a-kind cottage on the Little Bouctouche River, and we spent all our summers there. Picking strawberries, wild flowers, swimming and boating. She loved to encourage us to be outside and catch frogs, fireflies, and fish. When she became a grandmother she passed all of this interest along. In her later years, she retired from running the businesses, and it gave her renewed reason to explore her personal interests. She was an avid collector of all things. Jewelry, stamps, dolls, spoons, coins, books, dishes, glass, knick knacks, fabric, and enough craft projects to last 12 lifetimes. She loved learning about new things, she was always doing something. Her true passion became quilting, and she was amazing at it. She combined her passion for quilting and sewing with her love of animals and volunteered for Carma Cat Rescue fund raising efforts. We always had multiple cats in our home, the latest ones Miss Ruby and Tippy are going to miss her terribly. She was the head of our family in every way, her influence on all of us will endure.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years Garnet Gould, two children Kathlene Tozer (spouse Darryl Tozer) of Lower Coverdale, and Kenneth Gould (spouse Sherry Lynn Gould nee Hare) of Riverview. She will especially be missed by her two grandchildren, Maegan Tozer and Mason Tozer, and a sister, Mary Mason (spouse Jerry) from Halifax, NS. She also has many nieces and nephews, cousins, and of course her cats.
Her interment will be decided in time, she wants to be laid to rest with Garnet. As per her wishes, we will celebrate her life privately. Messages and memories are always appreciated. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Carma Cat Rescue (Moncton chapter) in her name, https://www.ca-r-ma.org/donate/
We love you mum, rest in peace.
