Zoël Gauvin, 96, of
Moncton, passed away on Friday November 20, 2020 at the War Veterans
Health Centre. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Arthur and
Exelda (Goguen) Gauvin.
Zoël was a veteran of
the Second World War having served in the Royal Canadian Navy aboard
the HMS Bowmanville on convoy duty in the North Atlantic. He retired
from CNR after 44 years of service as a boilermaker. He was General
Chairman of District 30 International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and
Blacksmiths for the Atlantic region. He was a member of the Royal
Canadian Legion Branch #6 and the Christ-Roi Roman Catholic
Church.
He is survived by his
daughter, Roberta Gauvin of Moncton; his son, Robert (Mireille) of
Tracadie; five grandchildren: Melanie, Kevin, Joël, Nadine,
and Brigitte; seven great-grandchildren: Sofiane, Jonathan, Jade,
Angélique, William, Zachary, and Samuel; one sister, Stella
Snyder (late Ron) of Moncton; two brothers: Paul (late Annette) of
Ottawa, ON, and Alcide (Nicole) of Rockland, ON; as well as several
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his
wife, Maureen née Cormier; and one sister,
Rita.
A very heartfelt thank you to
the entire staff at the Veterans Health Centre for the compassionate
and excellent care extended to our father.
By request, there will be no
visitation at the funeral centre. A private funeral service will be
celebrated at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street,
Moncton (858-1900) on Tuesday November 24 at 1:30
pm.
