Roger Surette, 85, formerly of Moncton, passed away on Monday August 17, 2020 at the Villa Providence in Shediac. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Jean-Baptiste and Geneviève (Bastarache) Surette.

Roger retired from CN and was a Jack of all trades. An avid sportsman, he loved the outdoors. He was a social butterfly with a super sense of humour, and loved to talk and tease everyone. He would hide his cookies but shared with those he loved the most, his grandkids. Lots of memories were made at the cottage, Cole Branch and St-Ignace. Roger was a gifted musician since his early age until the end. He spread the joy of music every chance he got and passed it on to the next generation. You can relax and whistle your way to the next party in heaven.

He is survived by his sweetheart of 63 years, Stella née Ferrari; three daughters: Denise of Moncton, Charline of St-Louis, and Simonne Gallant (Maurice) of St-Ignace; two sons: Giles and Maurice, both of Moncton; four grandchildren: Marie-Claire, Fabien, Lisa and Jesse; two great-grandchildren: Olivia and Felix; one step-great-grandson, Zachary; one sister, Simone Léger (Ronny) of Moncton; one brother, Clarence (Ethel) of Moncton; one sister-in-law, Frances McCarthy of Moncton; as well as his nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his step-mother, Yvonne (Després); one sister, Alfreda (Jean-Paul "JP"); two brothers: Valmond and Odule "Jack".

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude towards the staff of Villa Providence for their excellent care provided to Roger.

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm only. Due to the pandemic, face coverings are required for visitation and social distancing regulations are in effect. Limit of 50 people in the funeral centre at any given point during visitation. A private funeral mass by invitation only will be celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral, Moncton on Monday August 24 at 11 am. Interment will be in St-Ignace parish cemetery. The funeral mass will be videotaped and the video will be available on his obituary on our Website by the end of the afternoon. In memory of Roger, a contribution to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
