James Albert Chase, 76, of Moncton, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday December 26, 2019 at The Moncton Hospital. Jim was born to Bessie Richardson and Harold Chase of Humphrey.

He worked with CNR in various capacities for 37 years until retirement. Jim enjoyed his summers in Caissie Cape at the cottage. He fished the Miramichi and Juneau Alaska for salmon and hunted in Anagance and Fisher Hill. He loved nature and would often go for a walk in the woods. He was a man of many talents, worked in his workshop and produced some unique pieces of furniture and trinkets for our home and others.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 58 years, Rita née Babineau; a son, Brian (Jill); two granddaughters: Amy and Molly, and their mother, Judy Chase; two cousins: Bob Murray (Lynne) and Ivan Richardson (Sheila); as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers: Ted and Victor.

We would like to thank the many people who cared for Jim over the two years of his illness: our family physician, Dr Melanie Cyr, oncologist Dr. Mahmoud Abdelsalam, urologist Dr Guy LeBlanc, and Dr. Morcom, Dr. Azim, Dr. Searle, Dr. Shen, the many highly skilled nursing staff, Extra-Mural nurses and therapist Joan Gallagher. We felt very blessed and privileged to receive excellent compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place and a private blessing from our parish priest took place. There will be no visitation or funeral services. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton. In lieu of flowers, in memory of Jim, anyone wishing to donate can do so to Hospice of Greater Moncton (164 Collishaw Street, Moncton, NB E1C 9R3 - T: 383-2404), to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation (135 MacBeath Avenue, Moncton, NB E1C 6Z8 - T: 857-5488) or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
