It is with great sadness that the family of Anna Allain, 92, announces her passing at The Moncton Hospital on Tuesday June 18, 2019 following a brief illness. Born on December 30, 1926 in Moncton, she is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joseph; sons: Robert (Etta) of Dieppe, John (Francine) of Moncton, and Dan (Angela) of Riverview; three granddaughters: Monique, Sylvie and Emilie; two grandsons: Ryan and Michael; one great-grandson, Camden; sisters: Dorothy, Frances, Charlotte and Theresa; brother John; sisters-in-law: Dorothy, Eva, Yvette, Anida, and Marianne; brother-in-law, Normand; as well as many nephews and nieces.

Anna was predeceased by her parents Rudolph and Mary (Schella) Hanusiak; brother Rudy; and sisters: Veronica and Julia.

Anna was a life time member of St. Bernard’s Parish. At the urging of her parents, she left her family home on Botsford Street in her mid-teens to attend school in Caraquet, NB, to learn French, a language that served her well throughout her life. Returning home, she studied nursing and was a graduate of the Hôtel Dieu School of Nursing, class of 1947, where she was awarded the prize for surgery. She nursed in Halifax, NS, and Sackville, NB, for a short time, and later at the Hôpital Hôtel Dieu in Moncton where she met her future husband, married in 1951, and together began their amazing life. Anna spent nearly 30 years as a member of the Victorian Order of Nurses where she cared for the needs of hundreds in many of the poorest areas of Moncton.

She was happiest whenever family members and friends gathered at the family-built cottage in Caissie Cape, and elsewhere, during the holidays and on special occasions. She loved cooking, the outdoors, a good joke and, of course, her Toronto Blue Jays.

At the time of her passing, Anna resided at Serenacare’s assisted living residence in Moncton where she was doted on by an amazing staff of caregivers.

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900). Visiting hours Sunday, June 23 from 7 to 9 pm only. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, 43 Botsford Street, Moncton on Monday, June 24 at 11 am. Private interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.

The family wishes to thank the medical staff of the Orthopedic Ward (6600) at The Moncton Hospital for the wonderful care given to Anna during her brief stay. In memory of Anna, a contribution to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
