
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rachel Anita Leger peacefully at her residence on May 31, 2019 at the age of 101 years. Born in Shediac N.B., May 3, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Napoléon Honoré and Julie (Landry) Léger.
Rachel had a long and successful career in retail. At 18 years of age, she began working at the « Shediac .05 à $1.00 » and eventually worked her way up to management. Later on, she went to work in the family business. After her father’s retirement, Rachel managed « Leger’s Ready to Wear » also known as « Chez Madame Nap ». She also had several hobbies. She enjoyed needlework, knitting, quilting and cooking sweets. She was also very family oriented. As of late, she spent many hours doing « word search puzzles ». Her favorite TV shows were Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
She will be sadly missed by her two sisters: Charlotte Léger, with whom she resided and Hélène Roy (Charlie) of Shediac; one brother, Norbert Léger (Marjorie) of Saint-John as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Juliette Breau (Harold); three brothers: Maurice, Raymond and infant Thomas Eugène.
There will be no visitation at the funeral centre. The funeral will be celebrated in Saint-Joseph R. C. Church, 415 Main Street, Shediac Tuesday June 4 at 3pm. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
In memory of Rachel, a contribution to the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
