Marjorie Gabriel (Peters) Stanger passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017, at the Villa Providence in Shediac, New Brunswick, at age 75. Born on March 24, 1942, in Big Cove, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Peters and late Barbara Anne (Simon) Peters.
Marjorie graduated high school at 15, became a nurse at 17, and soon after met her husband Robert in Bangor, Maine. They married on Canada Day, July 1, 1961, and then moved to Phillipsburg, New Jersey. There she grew close to her father-in-law John Stanger, mother-in-law Katherine "Kate" Stanger, and sister-in-law Sharon Stanger. "Aunt Peg" became a much beloved member of the Stanger-Seaman families because of her warm and generous nature. She loved baking, sewing, boating, and home decorating, even running her own upholstery business for a short time. Marjorie taught Catholic catechism classes at St. Mary’s Church in Alpha, New Jersey; her students loved the homemade cherry tarts she would bring to her students. She also served a term as a stylish PTA President for Warren Glen School.
Marjorie spoiled all those she loved, and she loved so many! Marjorie also adored her miniature schnauzers Button and Jake, her many cats, and she enjoyed dancing, shopping, golfing, traveling, camping, reading, watching films, and attending plays. She was an avid bowler, scoring 256 as a personal best and winning the High-Game-Ladies-in-the League Award.
Marjorie and her family moved to Pleasanton, California, in 1979. For the next twenty years, she lived in California, Arizona, Florida, New Jersey, Illinois, Ohio, and Ontario before returning to New Brunswick in 2000. She and Robert traveled to Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean, as well as most of the fifty states in the U.S. Besides her work as a nurse and upholsterer, she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Cerkivi in Phillipsburg, NJ, and as a lab technician for Nuclepore in CA.
Marjorie is survived by her one daughter and three sons: Theresa (Dennis) Lavarini, Clayton (Fatima) Stanger, Christopher (Oanh) Stanger, and Kevin (Rita) Stanger. She also is survived by four grandchildren: granddaughters Elle and Eva Stanger, children of Chris and Oanh Stanger, residents of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandson Vaughn and granddaughter Io Stanger, both children of Kevin and Rita Stanger, in Irvine, California. Robert J. Stanger, her former husband of forty-one years, also survives her.
Marjorie leaves behind a large family in New Brunswick: her six sisters Stella, Lucy, Elizabeth, Mary Bella, Barbara Anne (Arnold), and Mary-Jane, as well as godson Clifford Sock, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by four brothers, Andrew, Abraham "Bouncer," Lawrence, and Frank.
Memorial services are pending, and Marjorie will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Church in Alpha, New Jersey.
