Dr. Philippe d’Entremont, 97, of Moncton, passed away peacefully on Thursday June 15, 2017 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC. Born on April 8, 1920 in Yarmouth, NS, he was the son of the late Louis and Anna (Boudreau) d’Entremont.

Dr. d’Entremont graduated from Ste Anne’s College in Church Point, N.S., in 1940. He received his MD and LMCC from Université Laval in 1944. From 1944 to 1946, he was a medical officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. From 1951 to1955, he specialized in General Surgery (Montréal) and subsequently returned to Moncton. In 1957, he was awarded the American College of Surgeons Fellowship and in 1972, the Canadian Fellowship in General Surgery. In 1976, he was president of the Federation of the Medical Licensing Authorities of Canada followed by being president of the Medical Council of Canada. He was subsequently awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal.

Dr. d’Entremont was also involved in the New Brunswick Medical Society’s activities for over 40 years and was a member of the provincial consulting committee of the Canadian Medical Protective Association. In addition to being the director of DVA for 17 years, he was director of the Detox Centre for 10 years.

An outdoor enthusiast, he thoroughly enjoyed fishing and hunting. His interests and pursuits included curling and golf. He was a founding member of the Richelieu Club and longtime member of the Beauséjour Curling Club.

He will be sadly missed by his family and many others and remembered for his humility, quiet strength and kindness.

He is survived by four children: Michelle of Shediac, Mona Buchannan (Murdoch) of Hammonds Plains, Marcia and Martin both of Moncton; a granddaughter, Rachelle Gauvin of Moncton.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara née Turner (1988).

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900). Visiting hours are Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm only. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Christ-Roi R.C. Church, 300 Dominion Street, Moncton Tuesday June 20 at 11 am. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary cemetery, Dieppe. In memory of Philippe, a contribution to the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont UHC Foundation would be appreciated.
