
Henri Joseph Lirette, 91, of Moncton, son of the late Louis Lirette and Angeline Arsenault, passed away peacefully at the Veterans' Health Centre, Wednesday, May 24th, 2017 surrounded by his family.
Henri was a veteran of the Second World War. He served overseas in the Carleton & York Regiment, as well as the 3rd North Shore Regiment. He earned the Italy Star, France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal Clasp. Henri worked at the CN shops for over 40 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Council #11985. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 006, Dieppe Military Veterans' Association, a life member of the Christ the King Golden Age Club as well as the CN Pensioners' Association.
Henri was predeceased by his first wife of 43 years, Bernadette (née LeBlanc). He will be sadly missed by his second wife of 24 years, Cécile (Poirier, née Belliveau) and his four children: Gisèle Cormier (Raoul) of Dieppe, N.B.; Francine Boyce (Darryl) of Ottawa, Ont., Guy (Jacqueline) of Dieppe, N.B. and Denise Koehler (Jan) of the Czech Republic; his three step-children: Joanne Cormier, née Poirier (Ovila), Victor Poirier, and Claude Poirier (Lana). He will also be sadly missed by his 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Henri was predeceased by three brothers: Walter, Léo and Aurèle as well as seven sisters: Yvonne, Florida, Florence, Jeanne, Anita, Alice, and Thérèse.
He lived 89 years of his 91 years on Emmerson St. in Moncton, N.B. Special thanks to the staff of the Veterans’ Health Centre for the loving care they gave Henri during his two years as a patient.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Friday, May 26 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm only. The Knights of Columbus will hold a prayer service at 3 pm and the veterans will hold a service of remembrance at 4 pm Friday at the funeral centre. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 27 at 11 am at Christ the King R.C. Church, 300 Dominion Street in Moncton followed by a reception at the Christ the King Golden Age Club. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary cemetery, Dieppe.
